Any Brown trout reports yet?

Post by Crayfish »

Hi all,

A buddy of mine and I are thinking of heading to the Oswego area for browns. Has anyone heard any reports on the fishing yet? We would have to go next week ... 4/7 - 4/10. We were late for the party last year since we couldn't make it over until the first weekend of May. Trying not to make that mistake again, but are limited to the 1st weekend in April now. Just wondering if there is any temperature near shore yet and if anyone has any fishing reports.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the report, Icedawg! Sorry you lost a good one, but that's usually the way it works. Were you fishing in front of Oswego?

Last year in May the temp was out almost a mile so it was hard to find the fish. We felt lucky to catch 6 browns and 1 steelhead in 2.5 days of fishing. Biggest brown was 8lbs, steelie was ~5lbs. Hoping that going earlier will improve our chances.

were the browns in close to shore in selkirk and mexico? that where i normally fish and did well there last april off the rocks. the boats couldnt get to them last year because of the low water. it was non stop action on sunday night right into darkness last year off the rocks at selkirk state park and then monday we fished off the rocks ar mexico bay and did okay but not great. had lots of walleyes following our lures in but no takers. my son got busted off twice by big steelheads at the mouth of the river. hoping to get up there soon.

Thanks, that's what we were thinking, too. We should be able to find a place to stay no problem, so no need to make any commitments ahead of time.

I really appreciate these reports as we were going to go out this week as the 12 yr old is off from school. Hard to keep kids interested not moving rods. Makes you appreciate the color we have in our water and some of that runoff we get from the farm fields may not be a bad thing after all. Almost makes you want to keep the landlocked fishery a secret.
