10.04 lbs on Surprise today. LCI Basin Derby entered.

Post by digitroll (ron) »

Stephen Elmer landed this 26.5" with a 19" girth Salmon this morning at 10:00 am. on our trip out with Surprise. Entered at Lakeshore Hardware in the Basin Derby. This fish mangled a Crazy Ivan Blue Moon offering. We were the only boat and trailer out today at the launch fished 9 am - 1:00 pm. Rarified air on the Surprise vessel with a double digit trophy!

More later......

OUCH.... that is an oversize football. Congrats to the trio.
Surprise is no longer a floating cuisine, it's a real fishing vessel.
Randy, you're setting the bar pretty high now.
Great video Ron.

Now the rest of the story:

Started out setting 6 rods and it was non-stop the first 20 minutes. Just when we were thinking of downsizing the presentation due to lots of bites the starboard rigger goes off with the Blue Moon Crazy Ivan spoon. Fish went East-West and then Southwest and jumped. We initially thought it was 5-6 lbs. As Stephen worked the fish half way back to the boat it jumped again and we thought it was 7-8 lbs and got excited as the blood pressure ramped up quickly. Then we got it 20 feet from the boat and it put on the brakes and sulked down 15 feet with a stand-off. After 5 minutes of this tug of war and not gaining any ground I shouted out to Randy to put the E-Tec in neutral. We gained the 15 feet needed and then we had the leverage to lift the fish 10-15 ft up. Once the fish was up on the surface 6 feet away it came in sideways and looked enormous about 10 lbs. Stephen was cool the whole time and worked the fish to the net and I vertically lifted it into the small net and declared it was ours! Lots of cheers after a 12-15 minute battle. The hooks and spoon were bent and the jaw was torn from all the pressure put on this fish during the stand-off. Very fortunate to land this magnificent fish. 26 1/2" 19" Girth.

Perfect Tale As Told Above Ron.

Thanks for sharing the day Guys and making such memories.

I was lucky enough to meet the team as they returned to the dock. This is, by far, the most beautiful Landlocked Salmon I have ever seen and to share in their excitement was truly an honor.
Congratulations to you all.
