Converse 10/28-10/29

Post by tmcaul »

We gave it the old college try last weekend...

Launched out of Converse Saturday at 7AM. Only boat there and no other trailers in the lot. Motored out past Garden Island and set up in lee of Thompson's Point. Waves on broad lake from the south about 2 ft at time we started. Son's 17 ft boat can't handle* waves that rough and we fished on a line between tip of the point northeast to and just around Garden Island, then heading back after turning in lee of Garden Island. We marked a lot of fish deep around 100-120 but we were after salmon and set riggers at 80 and 70. Wind was supposed to be light in AM but it was ripping pretty good when we set up and got stronger as we fished. We do not have a Fish Hawk but noticed that rigger angle was markedly different depending on which way we were fishing. After an hour or so of washing spoons we packed it in and dealt with rough water and pretty good wind out of SW at the launch. Curiously three boats were in the process of launching as we headed in. They were in for a rough ride...guy with one of the boats said small craft advisories had been posted.

Sunday was equally unsuccessful. Even rougher water - big rollers out of north and blowing rain. Tried for calmer water on south side of Thompson's Point but combo of waves and wind got the best of us. Saw another boat fishing near Kingsland Bay where it was exposed to wave action and it looked like it was being tossed around pretty good.

All in all a crappy weekend for us. Hope that weather for Saturday's Shootout is better.

*Boat can handle those waves but fishing in waves that height is a little too challenging.
