Carmi

Post by Vtmopar »

Hit carmi yesterday am. Water is pea soup. Bright colors are the trick. Lead head jigs with gulp minnows worked the best.
We each ended up with 3 keepers.
Threw back 4 or 5 between the slots. Also got into the big carmi yellows.

17-18.99999999999 are throw backs. Can keep 1 over 19. Yesterday was 1st time I wasn't checked for license this year. Surprising.
Water was very nasty with the algae, after trailering it looked like green dye pouring from the carpet bunk. Faired well myself but hate the crowd there sometimes, constantly getting shouldered by other people trolling. But that is Carmi fishing, both hard and soft water. Nice lake though.

I know what you mean.
What gets me is that we have to pay $4 per person to use a state boat launch.

Have not fished Carmi in a few years. When did they start charging to use the boat launch? It used to be free.....

Must be a owned by someone other then the State maybe Town owned to charge for the use, I was under the impression if State owned they couldn't charge for launching boats isn't that covered by Registration Fees

They don't charge to launch at the north end, but you have to pay a "day pass" type of fee to launch at the State Park.

My son and I did really well up there over a month ago, landing 11 walleye with 4 keepers, plus some big perch and 'seeds. But we went again a couple of weeks ago and the algae bloom was in full swing and we didn't fare so well. Landed 3 or 4 little wallys with no keepers. Did catch some nice perch and a few nice smallies, though, so it wasn't a complete bust. Get some funny looks sometimes when we're running in-line boards ... don't think most of the folks on that lake have seen those before!

That bloom on the lake is even worse now. Hope it doesn't do the Shelburne pond thing.

Yeah, it's a decent launch and it has a nice dock. Park along the road, plenty of room.

Rode past there today. Thick decaying scum all around lake, and it smelled like a sewer. Yuck.
