If you can believe this...

Post by Butcher »

7/2 Sunday I had a about 30 minutes to do a quick troll while the wife and kids were on a walk.

I was targeting Pike in Kellers Bay. I had on a #4 mepps with a grub twisting off the hook. The water was 66.4 degrees and I was in 10-12 feet of water.

5 minutes into the escapade my rod bends over. I knew it was a good fish right off the bat. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it?! After a couple failed attempts netting this thing solo with a heavy rubber net, I was able to get it into the boat. One 6 inch lampray on its back, other than that...PERFECT!

After I stopped shaking enough to send some quick texts, I get the call from the wife, "Where are you?"

My response..."I am on my way, meet me at the dock, I need you to take some pictures. And I am sorry but I have to go to Burlington"

My best Brown yet. 9.28 lbs.

Spend enough time on the water and special things will happen. Glad I had took so many pictures because even with them, I keep saying I cant believe that happened. I have caught a ton of browns out of that bay but never after the beginning of June...

I agree Gerry. Fishing is not about luck, it's about creating opportunities. Congratulations Butcher that is an amazing catch!

What a beautiful Brown, Butcher. Champlain is producing some great fish these days. I was lucky enough 2 summers ago to be a part of the same experience when my friend from Alaska, Jon Sewall, landed what turned out to be the Champlain record Brown at 9.4 lbs (9 lbs 6 oz) on a Slide Diver. A beast. Bet it was a ball on a Mepps Spinner. Well done.
