Inland Sea Rudd!!

Post by dickbaker »

Fishing for panfish with the grandkids off Grand Isle town beach I caught two Rudd. One about 2 lbs and the other a little less. For an invasive they have to be one of showiest fish I have ever seen. golden/brass on the sides and large bright red fins on the bottom. Brought my total number of Inland Sea species to 20. Still can't catch drum and carp??

No! too busy taking sunfish off for the kids? I'm going to check and find out if Rudd are good to eat?
Rudd first showed up in Keeler Bay. Who would bring a European shiner all the way to Champlain??

When in doubt, blame it on the Russians.

The ballast tank of a container ship/tanker. The port of Montreal is connected to Champlain by locks that fish can get through when they open for boats. Ballast tanks also brought us zebra mussels and Eurasian milfoil.

We have a ton down in GA. I'm sure neighboring States have. All it takes is a pair with eggs. They get big too. Also. Those Rudd are a favorite for pike. Large soft minnow for them to eat, so don't be surprised if someone brought Rudd in for bait. That's what makes Pike grow huge in Europe.

I have a sand pit down the road from my house. They stopped digging after they hit the water table. It has milfoil, water chestnut, bait fish of all kinds. Their is no brooks, streams or rivers that get to it. I never did look for locks and container ships I'll have to check. All this time I thought it was caused by the birds...stupid me..

Some day DIck it would be nice to see a pic. I have asked a few times over the years and you always say no for some reason. Would be nice to see the boat and to know your not another person who lurks here from keelers bay...

Is Dick Baker a pen name? If you write a letter to a newspaper you need to supply some form of verification. Maybe this forum should be doing this. I agree with you Matt.

Matt? I'll try to get a picture of my Stracraft. "lurk from keelers bay"?

C-Hawk? Dick Baker has always been my nom de plume whether on a fishing sited or writing for outdoor magazines! I'm afraid I don't have the slightest idea what you ask or intimate?

I guess that anyone who would use a" nom de plume " on a fishing forum, might be more prone to writing fiction.
