Launched at Westport Saturday morning 7 am. Parking lot was full. We headed south searching for bait. Set up 2 downriggers 15' and 25' with cheaters, and 2 small planer boards, 60' out, 50-75' back.
Nothing happening on the first 1/2 hour so we switched to a pink dipsy diver with pink lure on the port side 110' out. A few minutes later, we caught a 3 lb laker. Then the starboard rod fire, a nice 4.5 lb laker on the silver holographic lure cheater. Around Barber point, another hit on the same starboard cheater. The time it was heavy and would not bulge from bottom. I took a while before we got that 10 lb laker in the net. As we continued trolling south we got more hits, putting another 8 lb laker from the dipsy diver 150' out. We also another 6.5 laker and 2 silvers, 19" and 24". We tried so many lures but did not look there was any lucky patterns. As we reached Port Henry green can around 2:45 pm we turned back trolling north until 4:45 but did not get any hits. We pulled the boat out just before 6 pm and headed north for the 2 hour ride home. Weather-wise, it was nice in the morning, and getting pretty hot in mid afternoon when the small breeze died. We had to stop for ice cream on our way home.
This was my last trip on Champlain until fall. Heading next weekend to Ocean City MD until end of September. Will post my salt water fishing if worth talking about.
