8/7/2017 got a hot tip where i could catch some big rock bass so i said this morning im going something different. grabbed 2 rods set them up with 1 a chartreuse jig and the other with a bell sinker on the end of the line and and a #4 snell hook 12 inches above it also added a longer loop when adding the snelled hook for more movement on bottom. got to this spot at 7:10 am after a 45 minute drive and a dunkin donut stop. started slow but then i got a good size rock bass on the jig. i am hoping to get a good mess for a meal. put it in the pail and looked over and my rod with the bait on bottom was bent over ran over grabbed it and i land a bigger rock bass. they seemed to like it today still so i didnt even jig. at 7:50 am landed a small walleye and a big rock bass as both rods bit at once. then 5 minutes later i land a smallmouth bass toss it back in an the other rod is right out straight i land another walleye 14 inches. then from 8 am to 11 am i land 5 more smallmouth bass 3 yellow perch all 3 over 12 inches long 5 fall fish and many big rock bass at least 1/2 lb each. had one hit that almost took the rod out my hand and somewhere around 9 am i lost a good size walleye around 5 lbs near shore. had the walleye hooked but also had someones line also attached to my line could only get the walleye 5 feet from shore. he shook loose and the other line broke me off. my hot tip was really a good one and it was worth the trip. :D
here is a sample of the size of these rock bass.

Nice fish Matt, I think Rock Bass are under-rated...They are very good eating and have good size fillets. I used to fish for them a lot on Sacandaga and Brant Lake...Sawyer (Don) let me know when you can get away, we still have to do a trip with Fishy1...

8/8/2017 went back up today for some more rock bass fishing but they wernt biting. did have fun though landed 7 walleyes 5 smallmouths 4 rock bass 1 13 inch yellow perch and the last fish i land is a 31 inch pike. what a battle that was. i was using a green 1/8 ounce jig head all morning with success and as i was getting ready to leave i tossed it out jigged it once and stuck ugh pulled on it and it let go oh no broke the line off. but not to be 15 feet in front of me a good size fish busts water and just about took the rod right out of my hand fish on. after 6 or 7 runs with the drag zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing i land a 31 inch pike and no net. i only had 2 bites on the sinker rig on bottom all morning and the pan fish wernt active now i know why.
here is a pic of the pikeImage
