Trip with my favorite fishing partner.
Asked Theresa if she wanted to fish Friday, and after listening to the frostbite stories all winter she jumped at the chance. Now an early morning launch was out, as Theresa likes her sleep.
We ended up launching around 9am out of converse, and motored to New York to setup. Kinda in a period transitioning between shallow water and thermocline fish now...setup a very odd setup of 2 colors of lead on one inline board and 5 colors on the other. Setup a rigger with sliding cheater on port and ran a slide diver out 50 and locked it in and sent it down 65. Ran spoons all day...
The bite started slow, but we worked the 1st 6 releases without boating a fish!!! While just off split, Theresa jumped on a rigger release that stayed down off the release and pulled hard. This fish stripped 450ft of line right off before Theresa could even begin the fight. I slowed the boat to 1.8 and cleared all the lines for this fight. After 20 min Theresa was able to finally get some headway on this fish... No head shakes lead me to believe this was a huge salmon well over 8 lbs, as it was fighting just like Jaws last year. Once this fish started to come up, I told Theresa he would start to fight... As he started to get agitated he swapped directions and spilt the hook right out. The line counter was at 52 feet and Theresa had inched the 400 feet all the way... She about tossed my rod in the lake... Took minutes to recover.
We decided to troll to Vt. After a few passes to try to pick up a pig off the spot didn't work out... On the away across the abyss as always happens we started to get action... Nice lakers suspended..
We turned into townfarm and found 54 deg pockets... Once we located the bait the bit picked up. Theresa finally got her 1st 2017 silver on a custom tres amigos taped bronze Mp6 honeybee...
The sun started getting hot, and the bite slowed around 2pm.. We fished till 330pm and picked up after a fun time. At the launch we met a group from NH.. They had a 1st as best I can tell. They picked up a small alwife trolling a sutton 61!!!
It took most of the day to finally get our landing percentage back to 50% after the 1st 6 drops, but we did it... Nice work Theresa...
Well things are gonna get good real soon. See ya all out there this coming weekend for the Datillios...

Re: Trip with my favorite fishing partner.
Nice report, thanks for sharing, sounds like you had Jaws on there for a while! Sorry you lost that nice fish but I have a feeling that will keep your "favorite fishing partner" coming back for more however.

Matt,
Nothing is better than fishing with your favorite fishing partner, no matter how the day turns out.

I want to be a fisherman.
