Calm day on the inland sea

Post by Reelax »

Wow what a day..... Invited a business ascociate to catch his 1st salmon, he is from Texas so a landlocked Atlantic is something new for him. Also had the pleasure of having Marknfish aboard... We launched out of Apple island, late at 8am.... Motored directly to the bite and setup 4 long lines on otters out 125 and 2 lead core out 1-2 colors.... No sooner did we setup, but the port lead core fired and IH was on! Nice fish too..... After a nice fight, Mark slipped the net under IH's 1st salmon ever... A nice 23" clean fish!

After setting up we noticed the deeper into the bay wwe went the warmed the water got. 39,40,41,42.. Bingo fish on! Next one was a another nice fish for IH... Probably 22" and fat...

After turning and adding some different sticks tot the spread, the bite slowed some... Then we picked up a couple more mostly off the lead rods, with just 2 coming off the long lines...

Live well was starting to fill up with some respectable fish...

The lead core filled again and I grabbed it... Fight on zzzzzz

Nice clean 24" fish

After 2 we decided to call it a day and head back.

here is IH's big one,

Not only did he land his 1st few salmon, he gets to bring home some to fillet into sushimmi. Thanks for jumping aboard IH.

Thanks for coming Mark!!! Those are some nice keepers.

You know how it's done. We fished around the same bay from 8.30 to 5.30 and only got the two.
When we got to the Bay this morning around 7.30 we made one pass weaving around all the boats and was getting nerves about getting into someones lines so we decided to go to the main lake be going through causeway and the bike path to the main lake. Traci got two lakers in the 6 pound range. She has a new recipe to try. Anyway when i dressed them they were full of smelt. "Big smelt" one was 12 inches
i wish i got some pic.

Nice catch on the Reelax. We went this morning, but didn't launch until 0930. Chose to stay out of Keeler. It looked very busy and this was the shakedown run. Discovered a loose rigger base. Need a long skinny arm to get to the screws. Won't use them next weekend except for rod holder. We had the skunk smell aboard, today. Tried along Sand Bar and up to Eagle Mountain. Some bait, but no takers. Glad to see the skilled crew hitting nice silver. See everyone on Saturday.

Any obstacles to look out for while launching out of Apple Island this time of year? I have not launched out of that access area.
Home base is the Outer Bay, but I believe trying to get thru the sandbar causeway is looking for disaster after how low the water was last summer.
All kinds of things ready to grab my lower unit. Better off dunking her in at Apple Island. Any info would be great.
