Auto Pilot Reccomendations

Post by D-Cypher »

Good Day,
I am looking to install an auto pilot in my boat over the winter. It is and outboard engine (Honda) with rack and pinion cable steering. Does anyone have any reccomendations?

Thanks

Lowrance makes probably the most affordable one, but the kicker is you need a lowrance GPS/Fishfinder to control it. I already owned an HDS7 from Lowrance. Simrad (same parent company) makes one that is all inclusive, but I believe quite a bit more money. I believe there are guys on this board that can chime in on that. There are other options out there as well.
The Internet is a great source of information.
Once you have an Autopilot....you are spoiled...I would not be without one.

Too bad raymarine doesnt make the helm mounted for cable steering anymore. I love mine, simple. If you could find one used somewhere might be the way to go. But definatly get something!

Last winter I changed my cable steering to sea star hydraulic and do not regret it at all I then purchased a HDS 9 gen 3 and the Lowrance outboard pilot for my 19 triumph with a 135 Honda I love it wish I had done it years ago
