Remember to check your equipment

Post by ThreeBuoys »

I know better, but sometimes we get busy and forget.
Went out on the lake, lowering my Scotty electric rigger......made a funny noise and then SNAP.
There goes a ten pound cannonball with release and snubber.
I figure when adding it all together I am probably out at least $60
Just a reminder to check your equipment prior to hitting the Lake!

That would be my best guess. Cable is probably 10ft shorter now.
Worse than that is I didn't find fish either!

Always good to check stuff out! I was pulling out of the lot to hit the water last night, and heard a squeal, looked back to see my bearing buddy pop off. think I would have learned the lesson 2 weeks ago when the other sides bearing went, but nope. Good thing I was still in the parking lot where I store the boat. quick trip to gilles and an hour of work and its back together ready to roll.

The other thing I need to keep in mind is to have spare parts for my riggers on hand. Cable termination. Not an expensive item. Lead on the other hand...not so much.

400' of cable on each rigger. (enough for a few cutoffs)

2 extra cable terminations

2 extra balls

2 extra releases...

Basic kit for covering rigger issues while fishing... Will keep you trolling after a mishap..

Sorry to hear about your mishap, Threebuoys! Even on my (little) boat I keep a Canon cable termination kit and a spare ball. Never know when something is going to go wrong. I have them on hand on the off chance that I get one hung up and have to cut it or it breaks off, but I guess there are other things that can happen, as well.
