I got some new to me riggers a couple months ago and they created an issue when I wired them in. I have too many wires going to negative post on the battery and it caused a voltage regulator to fail. So my question is, is there a good reason why the main negative charge cable is a ring connection and not a normal terminal like a car would have? The positive wire is a normal terminal. If I were to switch to a terminal on the negative and only use the eyelet ring connectors for the small stuff like the riggers, it would make things cleaner.

Keith,

If you have a standard size battery post available, change the connector to an automotive style. Just make sure before you cut off the ring that the new terminal will fit both the post and the size cable you have. An alternative would be to run a size 8 or 10 wire to a wire connector post and put all your secondary wires on the post ( see https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/u ... Connectors )

You probably have too many terminals on the positive post as well.

Install a fused terminal block between your battery and the equipment. Then you can fuse each piece of equipment or instrument and there will be a negative connection terminal plate.

Exactly what reel delight said.
"Daisy chain" your grounds through a fuse block.
Then you only have one positive and one ground from your battery feeding your system.
Except for your links to your starter on your outboard or inboard.
Then wire your onboard charger to your battery.
