Big Jon Motor Repair

Post by keithm87 »

I have a couple of old Big Jons that I use on my boat, they are both in need of having the motors worked on. Anyone have a recommendation of where to take them? I called wilds in barre local to me and they said they wont work on them.

Thanks!

Fish307 in Lake George.
They have Schematics and Parts online. I bet if you called them, they would help you out

I sent one of mine right back to Big Jon. They fixed it and returned it in a reasonable amount of time. Great customer service I thought.

I tried fish307, they suggested new motors at $180+tax and shipping a piece. The motors on them still work just are a little tired and need attention. I can't justify $400 for new motors when the ones there are still working. One trips on retrieve and descends way to fast, and the other has an occasional squealing noise.

When you sent your in to big jon, did they just service the motor or did you send the hole DR? I imagine it will cost me an arm and leg to send out the whole downrigger.

You might give a call to Ramel at the Old Fishin Hole in Morrisville. He was very helpful to me with a Big Jon last year.

An alternator repair shop should be able to clean the brushes in those motors. They could even rewind them, but that's not likely to be necessary. I'd talk to the Ramel guy first, though.
