Tuning Lures

Post by tamiron »

Many early spring trollers for trout and salmon will claim the superiority of Stick baits over spoons. It is my opinion that changing from single hooks to treble hooks, on the spoons, will level the playing field! The preference isn't the shape or the action but slower/less aggressive strikes caused by cold water is minimized by at least a three to one ratio of hook points!

If you are ever going to change singles to trebles, cut the jump ring ... not the hook. A split ring will allow you to switch back and forth without wasting hooks.

The secret is out...... Ha!

Thanks for the post Jim. The bees you sent me with trebles and welded rings last year did work on short striking fish.

I even gave a couple away to other members like Homewrecker, DA and Raz. They may have comments.
