line hookup in the release

Post by Joe Mott »

whats better just a straght through grab or do you like to give it a curl with a twist or 2 so it dosent slip through the release when you get a hit?

If you are using something like a Chamberlain or a Blacks, you will want to twist the line a few, 5, 7 times. In a pinch pad, straight through is fine.

Even with my punch pads I still give her 10 twists. Reason being I had braid cut into a pinch pad I was using, and no matter how much I tried to get it to release, it would not. So I lost a really nice salmon as I was reeling up the weight. Just sharing since it was a painful loss for me back then when I had to paddle for my fish.

Good point. I wasn't thinking braid.
