Post-tournament bass dispersal research report available
Post-tournament bass dispersal research report available
Not exactly “new” news, but those interested in the fate of bass following live release tournaments might want to check out this link.
http://www.uvm.edu/seagrant/sites/defau ... d_size.pdf
It’s a rather lengthy and somewhat technical report but details what was learned from a large tagging/telemetry study on Lake Champlain in 20111 and 2012. Among the take home points............bass dispersal is complex and slower than you might guess. Although the study did not focus on mortality, it did confirm the rather low mortality rate associated with these events in both 2011 and 2012.
The report was distributed to some audiences, but likely never posted on the Lake Champlain United forum site. What can I say - better late than never!
If you're looking for a shorter (and easier to digest) project summary, stay tuned. This topic might surface again as workshop presentation next winter

Thanks for posting, I'll have to take a look, I remember when this study was done. Link worked for me:

I noticed both people that said the link wouldn't work are from Canada, must be some sort of illegal immigration thing Trump just passed.
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

We must protect our information from those evil Canadian fishermen. Eh. It would be an interesting topic for a seminar, but there would probably be a protest with "Frostbite Lives Matter" signs on display.

Re: Post-tournament bass dispersal research report available
I didn't think this report told us what we wanted to know,do the majority of bass die after being in a tournament or not?the long term mortality rate was not shown and only the short term mortality was discussed but only in a few past tournaments.
