fall fishing thread

Do the fish return to the upper water column in the fall as water temp begins to cool like they do in the spring? Trying to prepair.

Hi Will
They do when the bait is there. But not like in the spring. In the spring they move into shorelines looking for warmer water and bait. In the fall the shore line areas are basically the same temp as the deep water. In the fall they are generally found over deep water but sometimes higher in the zone. Before the alwives hit the scene the top 40 was hot because the young smelt were always on top in the fall. As the smelt has declined the Fall bite has gotten much deeper(40 to 120). This year we are seeing more smelt and fewer alwives so who knows. One way to find out. I am looking forward to finding out.
