Ocean City

Post by Gecha (Gerry) »

I had a great time taking my brother fishing for flounder this weekend.
As usual, he beat me by catching a 17.5" flounder after only a few minutes. He then caught a 14" that went back in the big pond.
Will try to post pic tomorrow.

This week is the WMO (White Marlin Open) fishing tournament with over $4 millions in prizes. Last year white marlin 1st prize won over $1 million.
You can't believe the size and luxury of some of those fishing vessels.
Will try to get a few pics.

My brother caught the biggest fish because I taught him well.
I was providing and driving the boat, supplied the rod and reel, bait, told him when to put the line in the water, and drifted the boat right on top of the fish.
Looks like I did all the work, and he got the reward ;)

OMG I really miss fishing down there, lived just off the mouth of the Nanticoke river and then just outside of OC, MD for years.

Fished Sunday in the bay. Croakers are showing up in good numbers. It should be a blast catching them during the next few weeks. Caught over 20, kept 11 for a nice meal in the evening.
Also caught this cuty green eye blowfish. They have very sharp teeth and know how to use them.

Put a rod in the water Friday evening for 1.5 hours. Caught 5 sea bass, 1 blowfish, and 9 croakers. All caught of piece of squid, and all were released. Should head back today if wind settles a bit.

This weekend we're getting pounded by Hermine. Lots of wind and we should expect a lot of rain during the next few days. No fishing until it resolves.
Yesterday went crabbing with friends. They had about 20 crab pods baited since Wednesday and we caught over 250 blue crabs. We threw back about 1/3 undersized and females. We had a great feast last night and many leftovers.

Adding some pics taken earlier this season.
Our neighbor caught a nice mahi-mahi during a short trip offshore, and it tasted delicious.
