Re: Frostbite Derby
Thanks everyone for the kind words. Great job once again Randy, and Congratulations to our new Admirals. Always fine video editing by Ron too. Certainly the best derby all year, a special one for just us. I'll be back. I'm trying to finish up some loose ends at work so I can use that energy to do so...

Frostbite Derby
I just want to wish everyone good luck at the Derby, but unfortunately I am not going to participate this year. I have some medical stuff going on that I have been dealing with all summer, and while I'm ok, the medicine I take for for a heart condition leaves me weakened and tired a lot. I just don'...

You seem well endowed to fighting your medical challenges Jim, I see no reason that you will not get by this one. Good luck, and wishing you the best.

You got it. Just that the screen doesn't give an instantaneous read out. It takes a few seconds to react. This time of year I would just drop it to 50 feet, and go from there.

Re: Northernmost Summer Lakers
Cumberland should be good, but much north of there in my experience, the temperature change is much more dramatic with a blow. Better off in the islands or Valcour any way.

Re: Westport Area Reports
They can be any depth. I got some suspended at 90 over 160'. The next weekend they were on bottom in 65. All depends on wind changing the water temp . I don't think the rest of the lake is as prone to the temperature change as we are up North. When we have that hard 30 mph blow for a day or more, I'...

Re: Westport Area Reports
Chazy, You should be able to catch Lakers at Cumberland Head, especially on the south side. After a south wind, water will be warm deep. Fish a day or two after a good north blow, and fish will be more active in the cooler water.

Re: Where did the salmon go, outer bay/colchester reef
Consider yourself lucky , or skillful to catch salmon in the outer Bay at all this year. The whole area has been mostly terrible for salmon fishing the last4 years. I have no explanation except the usual blather; birds, lamprey, alewives, lack of commitment by Vt. FandW to figure out why salmon fish...

Re: Sweet spot
That may have been me. I like to run one line way back off the rigger, and when fishing solo, wich happens a lot, I use verticle blades on the rigger cable. See fish 307. And , I like to keep my life within 30' of the blades.

Re: Safety First...and some fun stuff
Wasp spray. I had accidentally left a can in the boat two years ago and when I went the first time this year , boy was I glad I still had it. The damn things made a nest in my Buddy Heater and came to life a mile from shore.

Re: shallow, and other gripes
I'm not sure if this is true or not, but once I heard that the power line was never burried deep enough to allow digging a channel.
