I also just use a normal minnow trap. Whatever type of trap you use, let it sit outside and get rusty and you'll get more bait, crawfish and minnows.

I trap crawfish from a river next to my house. Can of cat food with a couple holes punched in the top and bottom works well, put it in a rocky area. They're more active at night, at least where I trap them. Keep the bait sized ones, throw the smaller ones back to grow.

most of the lakers I get out of the NEK lakes are slimmer than Champlain fish, they have brighter colors too. Definitely taste better Give and take on both sides I guess.
