I know Tiger muskies (muskie/pike hybrid) are sterile. In all likelihood these are as well, which, as you noted, is usually the case for hybrids. Though I'm sure that doesn't stop them from trying....

I know Fish and Wildlife monitors it pretty closely. They make sampling trips with the shock boat pretty regularly. You could give the Essex office a call and ask them what their data have been showing for a trend in the past few years.
