Re: GREAT NEWS

fishingmachine? I love Harold Blaisel's writings and I have most of his books! I have in no way taken any credit for ending the wasteful Conn. River Atlantic Salmon program? I did my best to help New England Writers to convince NOAA and National Fish & Wildlife to end the Conn. River Atlantic Sa...

Re: GREAT NEWS

fishingmachine? Just to mention that a decade ago it took several New England outdoor writers to get State politicians and NOAA to end the fruitless and costly Atlantic Salmon Restoration Program? It also took hurricane Irene's destruction of the Bethel hatchery, making it economically impossible to...

Re: Lake Trout Angler Mortality??

I never had trouble with lake trout mortality, I never even fished lake trout because we had a good salmon bite through August last year. It was you who questioned our ethics about fishing salmon deeper than 40 feet. I think you like to beat your own drum and use the cover of being an outdoor write...

C-Hawk You had trouble with lake trout survival last July. Did you ever find a way to improve it?

Butcher? I'm always amazed at your ability to take browns out of the IS. What color was your Mepps and was it dressed or not? Super fish?

Re: Inland Sea

I'm a little confused by the data from the Inland Sea weather buoy? It reports that water is about 66 degrees from surface down to 56 feet?

Have any of the professional guides considered utilizing aerated live well to compensate for low oxygen content of the late summer surface water?

Re: Lake Trout Angler Mortality??

Good new seems to be the weather buoy report that Champlain surface temp. is 66 and temp at 55 ft. is 65 degrees. Wouldn't seem to too harmful until lakers move down to water that is in the 50's??
Anyone have an idea when that might be?

Re: Lake Trout Angler Mortality??

Interesting article Study: Warm waters increase lake trout hooking mortality http://www.dl-online.com/news/4292049-study-warm-waters-increase-lake-trout-hooking-mortality Kind of depressing article? But, I have my doubts about death in 50 degrees surface water since most of the lakers are coming up...

Re: Lake Trout Angler Mortality??

[quote="Digitroll (Ron)"]Quick removal with needle nose pliers in the water (no net / no handling / single hooks) on Champlain. There is about a million lake trout in Champlain.

I agree with Ron! I'm not sure about the 1,000,000 lakers in Champlain?

Re: Lake Trout Angler Mortality??

Great Lakes biologists seem to have less concern about barotrauma and real concern about summer temperature change. Got back to a Superior biologist and he assures that 15 percent of released summer lakers will die. But he confirmed that lamprey removal may be a real compensation! July and August su...
