Favorite Fish of the Day 7/22/17
Had a great day on Champlain and Crazy Ivan spoons treated us right. Little breezy and I got a bit flustered by a couple big cruisers that came entirely too close but still a great day. Few small salmon and some lakers but the highlight of the day was this 100% pure Champlain Steel. Late morning dou...

Re: Kicker size - 8 or 9.9hp?
Thanks to all who responded to my post. Bought a 9.9 Yamaha (not high thrust) and will start trolling with that motor tomorrow. Not much weight difference between 8 and 9.9hp motors. Tom Great choice! You will be happy with it and kickers have been "adding wight" to transoms for years wit...

Re: fish hawk td
Fishhawk suggests removing the rubber bumper after use / during storage as it can keep water in contact with the contacts and the probe remains on shortening battery life.

Re: Main lake 6/7
Agreed Todd. We put salmon, steel and a few lakers (couldn't seal the slam with a brown...) in the boat during the Rotary but just couldn't get on the board. We ground it out looking for bait and fish. Old School. They were scattered for sure with most fish coming in between spots. The lake was pret...

Re: Is slow trolling with a main engine detrimental?
Be careful playing around with prop pitch. Make sure you are in the motor specification for RPM at WOT with the prop you choose or you can damage your engine when making runs.Digitroll (Ron) wrote: Running a lower pitch prop by 2 degrees will shave a couple tenths at idle. A

Re: Is slow trolling with a main engine detrimental?
I am conscidering throwing a 7.5 in the bow for emergency back up though. Yeah, stuff happens even with new engines, and with no tow service on the broad lake it could be the difference between getting home or getting blown onto rocks. I run a dinosaur 2 stroke main but I'd still have a kicker stow...

Re: Kicker motor
Hi everyone. I have a 115 Mercury 4 stroke on a 19 ft Starcraft. I use a drift sock for trolling. I am thinking about getting a kicker motor. No idea where to even start. Thinking a 9.9 hp... Looking for opinions, pros/cons, what to get, etc. is it worth it in the long run? How much should I expect...
